Birthday FAQ

My birthday is the 22nd of December. Whenever I mention my date of birth, it always creates comments. For the last 24 years I’ve listened to people making dorky little comments regarding my date of birth. If you find I have referred you to this page, please read it before asking any more questions.

Four Frequently Asked Stupid Questions

December 22nd… wow, that’s really close to Christmas.

Yes, it is. It’s three whole days before Christmas.

What’s it like having your birthday so close to Christmas?

As I have never had my birthday at any other time of the year, I have nothing to compare or contrast, so I can’t really say, however I would imagine that it’s not a lot different from any other day.

Do people ever give you just one present?

No, no one has ever done that, unless it had been especially arranged that instead of giving me two small presents, they instead give me one big one. I think it would be so incredibly rude to not give me a present just because my birthday is close to Christmas. If anyone ever did that to me, I’d do the same to them, “Sorry, you’re not getting a present for your birthday because I gave you one five months ago at Christmas.”

It must be horrible because all your friends have gone away on holiday.

A few times when I was at school I had my birthday party a few weeks earlier, but now I always celebrate on the day. If you’re not in town, it’s your loss, not mine.

It’s a strange phenomenon. It’s my birthday and everyone knows that and should, as western culture dictates, be HaPPY. So why do people act like it’s an unfortunate day to have as a birthday? That I should be sad because all my friends have gone away on holiday.

It’s my birthday, and I’ll celebrate it if I want to.
