I hate diamonds

I really hate diamonds. I hate how the giant evil diamond cartel that rules the world pretty much invented the modern concept of the diamond engagement ring 50 years ago. I hate how they invented eternity rings as a way of using up all the piddly little diamonds. I hate how they keep diamond prices artificially inflated. I hate chain store jewellers who sell “discounted” yet overpriced low quality diamond rings to customers who buy into the diamond myth.

I base my rage on this article that was first published in the Atlantic Monthly in 1982. The only thing that’s really changed since then is that artificial diamond technology has advanced to the point where the cartel is getting nervous.

I would rather have a piece of gravel set into a gold ring.
